Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

Contract: Flex/AIR Application Design and Development, Oct 2008 - Current

Designed and developed COMFEN3 and COMFEN4, an Adobe AIR-based application for creating and comparing energy simulations of building facades. As the primary designer/developer on the team, my tasks include user research and usability studies, UI design, application and database design, application programming including the use of IoC frameworks (SWIZ), EnergyPlus programming, and close collaboration with the LBNL Windows and Daylighting team.

The Institute for Sustainable Performance in Buildings (SU-PER-B, formerly The Deringer Group)

Contract: Flash and Flex Design and Development, September 2005 - Jan 2011

Contracted with SU-PER-B of Berkeley, CA, to build an eLearning application in partnership with Lawrence Berkeley Labs. As the sole designer/developer, I have applied many skills towards this project, including :

  • application design
  • interactive/UI design
  • Flash/Flex/AIR development (ActionScript 2.0 and 3.0)
  • illustration/animation skills
  • Ruby on Rails programming
  • database design and programming (MySQL, SQLite)

Tasks included creating custom components in Flex and Flash CS3, integrating Flash charts, and packaging the application for desktop use via MDM Zinc 3.0. Read more about Learn HVAC.

LiftAgency / Composite Software

Contract: Flex Development, September 2009 - Jan 2010

Hired by LiftAgency to write the Flex code for a dashboard that monitors database health and activity, including interacting with a BlazeDS implementation via remoting.

MotionStrand (for client CSK Hotels)

Contract: Flex Design and Development, May 2008 - July 2008

Teamed up with design firm MotionStrand to develop a touchscreen application for CSK Hotel's new ALoft Hotel. This Flex-based application incorporates multiple XML streams of data to provide interactive maps, current flight information and a four-day weather forecast. Technologies used include Flex 3.0, Flash CS3, Photoshop CS3, XML, and the Cairngorm architecture.

U.C. Berkeley ITS Group

Contract: Flash Design and Development, May 2006-July 2006

Designed and developed WorkZoneViz, a Flash-based desktop application for ITS instructors. WorkZoneViz illustrates complex traffic work areas by offering a complete library of traffic objects (signs, pavements markings, etc.) in an interactive environment. I used OOP design, XML, the ARP framework, ActionScript 2.0 and MDM Zinc 2.5. I created all artwork and UI design. I also used the Agile methodology during the project to good effect. Mueller Design

Contract: Flash Design and Development, June 2005 - July 2005

Developed Flash-based communication tool for Mueller Design's client, McKesson. Project consisted of a CD-based Flash application based on Mueller's Photoshop designs. Project was received enthusiastically by Mueller and their client. This project won a Gold Medal Horizon Interactive Award.

Vitesse Learning

Contract: Flash Design and Development, Feb 2005 - May 2005

Contracted with Vitesse Learning to build e-Learning courses in Flash. Promoted to Lead Developer after only one month on job due to quick assimilation of Vitesse process and solid ActionScript skills. Led the development portion of e-Learning project for large pharmaceuticals company.

Simulat Interactive

Flash Design and Development, April 2004 - Feb 2005

Contracted with Simulat Interactive to produce flash applications and presentations. Responsible for the design and development of Flash-based rich web applications using Flash MX 2004 and substantial ActionScript 2.0, including use of design patterns. Use illustration and creative talent to imagine, illustrate and develop animated e-Learning presentations for Simulat's key customers (Microsoft, Burst Technologies, WebSense, and McAfee).

Apexion / Lawson Software

Contract / Employee : User Interface Design and Flash Development, March 2002 - April 2004

Personally responsible for the complete design and construction of user interfaces (UIs) for Apexion's entire line of Medical supply chain applications, including handheld and browser versions. Worked closely with business analysts and engineers to build usable, attractive interfaces for high-use areas in hospitals. Designed complete suite of handheld applications for Win CE 3.0 and Pocket PC 2002-based handheld applications. Other contributions included information design, user interface design, graphic design, HTML and CSS coding, JavaScript, and Macromedia FLASH development.

Credit Suisse Personal Finance

Employee: Information Architect, January 2001 - December 2001

Responsibilities centered around Web application development, including: information design, interface design, graphic design, Web strategy, Web programming, business requirements gathering, customer experience design and internal applications development. Served as a key member of the customer experience team and assisted in the development of a new customer experience methodology. Broad skill base was an asset to a small team that needed both design creativity and technical solutions. My understanding of corporate strategy and financial services was an important factor in key business and technical decisions.

Mothership Design

Co-Founder, Information Architect, August 1999 - December 2000

Co-founded Mothership to provide Internet solutions for Atlanta-based businesses. Hired two staff and managed firm activities. Main client was E-Invest, an online brokerage start-up based in Atlanta. E-Invest website included dynamic content and integration with several ASPs. Led construction of E-Invest web site code (using JSPs) on client side, including creation of customer profile database (Oracle) and database access code. Created graphic design elements for E-Invest and ensured consistency with brand attributes and visual language. Key contributor to E-Invest business strategy and brand. Provided successful Internet solutions for other clients including Andersen Consulting, FrogFire Design, Melia Design and Catalyst Consulting.

Georgia Institute of Technology

Graduate Assistant, Icarus Project, August 1998 - May 1999

Assisted faculty in conceptualizing online course for technical writing. Developed complete web presence (IIS, ASP, Adobe PDF SDK) for the course, including all information architecture, programming, graphic design, and site management.

Environmental Design & Construction

Helped conceptualize, create, and launch this start-up magazine for environmentally conscious architecture. Responsible for most of magazine's content, including features and columns. Magazine was a tremendous success among the architectural community.

American Banker Online
